When I was on my low carb/low sugar diet I was leaning on plain iced black tea. That was, until the baby was up all day and night with even the tiniest amount of caffeine. I had to find something caffeine free to drink until baby girl arrived, and the Iced Passion Tango Tea is Starbucks’ premiere caffeine-free iced tea offering.
Starbucks Passion Tango Tea Fast Facts
As mentioned, this tea is 100% caffeine free, also known as herbal tea. Pulling knowledge back from my Teavana employee days, herbal tea is not actually tea at all. Rather, it’s a blend of leaves, fruits, bark, roots, or flowers belonging to edible, non-tea plants.
Even white tea, the lowest of caffeinated tea still has caffeine in it. So, the only way to get true caffeine-free tea is to have a ‘tea’ with no tea in it at all. True herbal teas are always caffeine free.
Flavor-wise, it’s very bold all on it’s own. You’re going to get a delicious blend of fruity flavors without any help, but a pump of their liquid cane sugar or a packet of Splenda (I do one per size, starting at one packet in a tall) will really elevate the sweet factor. I think it tastes straight up like delicious juice with nothing more than on Splenda!
How to Order a Starbucks Passion Tango Tea
There’s a bunch of ways you can order this, one of which features the popular Starbucks lemonade. When I was drinking this pre-baby I was still on my gestational diabetes diet, so I ordered a tall as-is and added one Splenda packet.
As mentioned though, you can get it as a lemonade, or add a different juice for a flavor variation (apple sounds amazing).
This is exactly what my label looks like when I order it in the drive thru. Truly just as-is with a packet of Splenda. I ask for it and add myself but there’s no reason you couldn’t just order it right in there!

Best part of ordering the Passion Tango Tea as-is, is that it’s virtually just delicious fruity water! There’s no calories, no sugars and no carbs.
For being so scarce on any real nutritional value, it’s an extremely flavorful drink. Seriously, one packet of Splenda has it tasting like juice yet still, no calories.
Starbucks Hack
Whenever I have a free drink, one of my go-to moves is to order a trenta iced tea and save at least half of it for the next day (sometimes two!). Saves me good chunk of change and keeps well if you store it in an airtight bottle (I keep mine in my shaker bottles).
