Looking for something fun and safe to do for NYE 2020? Same. Here’s a roundup of several options, all of which the whole family is sure to love. From gaming to watching the ball drop, there’s several different things you can do on New Year’s Eve within the comfortable walls of your home.

Catch the Ken Jeong and Joel McHale New Year’s Eve Broadcast

If you’re a fan of The Masked Singer or I Can See Your Voice, you probably love Ken Jeong and Joel McHale together. They’re an absolute riot! Even if you’ve never watched them interact, I highly recommend this broadcast because I’m betting you’ll find it entertaining, and who doesn’t need a good laugh in 2020? Read more about their Fox broadcast here.

Watch the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop

This event is typically covered via live broadcast by any number of networks, so it won’t be hard to find one on TV. However, even if you don’t have cable, you can watch a live stream of the ball dropping in NYC. Stream the event directly from NewYorkTimesSquare.org.

Try Creating a DIY Charcuterie Board

Stock up on staples like pepperoni, prosciutto, Havarti, Brie, mini pickles, jams and more to create an Insta-worthy snack board for whatever the night has in store. Peep this Christmas charcuterie board I bought locally from @bantambites for some serious inspo!

Target sells this Charcuteri Trio and variety of cheeses for a huge head start and cost savings. I’m also loving this large wedge of blue cheese for a centerpiece. Scattered fruit and crackers around your meat and cheese displays and BOOM! – you’re fancy af.

Catch the In-Game Fortnite New Year’s Eve Event

If you’re a gamer like me, this is an extra appealing, socially distant event to catch. Fornite will have a live in-game NYE event at midnight this year again. I recommend starting to drop in-game 5-10 minutes before midnight though, as servers can be overloaded with people joining last minute. For an even smoother experience, join a large group game so there’s less people shooting at you while you’re trying to experience the event. Plus, even if you are sniped, the big team campaigns almost always re-spawn you so you’re sure to be back in time for the fireworks!

Watch Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve

Ryan Seacrest will be hosting this annual event on ABC and it sounds like there will be several musical performances. This is a classic event that speaks for itself, but if you’re looking for more, it will also make great background entertainment during your game night or other activities. Catch the live stream here on NYE.

Host a Game Night

This is my favorite way to spend NYE any year, personally. We’re over the whole going out and getting drunk concept (have been for years, and not just on NYE) so this is perfect. No hangover in the morning, plus at least one person is sure to leave with some big bragging rights!

New Year's Settlers of Catan

Below are my top recommendations and links to grab these games curbside with time to spare before the last day of the year.

Board games for 2-6 people

  • Settlers of Catan is a total classic. Plus, we have the Catan expansion pack that allows up to six players, a total must for board-gamer families!
  • Ticket to Ride is so fun and super easy! This one allows up to 5 players.
  • Betrayal at House on the Hill has to be one of my top favorite board games of ALL TIME. Up to 6 players can play at a time and every game is totally different. There’s about 100 different scenarios that can play out, and in each game someone always becomes a traitor and that’s where the real fun begins. It’s a MUST play. Pick this one up curbside for game night today!
  • Splendor can be played by 2-4 players and is a newer one we are really loving. You collect gems and buy cards with them to get to the desired number of points. Seems difficult at first glance but you’ll catch on quick!
