On my quest to find new low caffeine drinks, I encountered the Starbucks Decaf Americano. Given that an Americano is simply espresso and water, and I’m not big on the taste of pure coffee/espresso, I knew I’d need something more to sell me on it. I stan any drink with the vanilla sweet cream cold foam, so I added that and voila, a new low caffeine drink option was born.

How to Order a Decaf Americano with Vanilla Sweet Cream

Honestly, it’s all in the title, but here’s a picture of my drink order label. Sometimes it’s easier for your barista to see the label and punch it in the system that way. Pin this image to reference it on your next Starbucks run!

What’s in a Decaf Americano with Vanilla Sweet Cream?

Here’s a screenshot of the ingredients found in a Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, because it gives the most accurate representation of what makes up the vanilla sweet cream. Aside from the Vanilla Sweet Cream, this drink is only espresso and water.

Vanilla Sweet Cream Foam Ingredients

As you can see, most of the ingredients are in the vanilla sweet cream and vanilla syrups.

But let’s be honest, the vanilla sweet cream is what makes this drink!

How Much Caffeine is in a Starbucks Decaf Americano?

This was a big question for me, because I felt like it was a lot more than it really was, but it’s possible my body just doesn’t like espresso, regardless of caffeine content.

After doing some thorough research on various sites, I’m confident I can provide you a good estimate. I’d venture to believe a grande Starbucks Decaf Americano has about 18-45 mg of caffeine. The reason there’s no concrete answer is because the beans are decaffeinated upon ordering so if one barista decaffeinates them differently than the last barista, there may be a slightly different caffeine content from drink to drink.

Generally speaking though, based on the various sources I read ahead of writing this article, the Starbucks decaffeination process is 80-95% effective, so if a regular grande Americano is 225 mg of caffeine to begin with, the caffeine range of a grande Starbucks Decaf Americao will be around 18-45 mg of caffeine. Good news for my pregnant mamas, because this is well below the recommended 200 mg of caffeine per day!

Again, these are all estimates so if you are pregnant, or have a serious condition or caffeine sensitivity, I highly recommend speaking to your healthcare provider before consuming any caffeine at all.
