Today, I’m sharing the currently festive corner of my kitchen counter. This is where I have the bulk of my kitchen’s holiday decor. It’s easier to display most of it in one spot because it keeps the countertop clearer for use. What makes a lot of this holiday decor special is that it’s old stuff made new. I’m repurposing holiday decor for this space and it feels like such an accomplishment!
Repurposed Kitchen Counter Decor
Normally, this corner spot is where I keep a cookie jar, straws, napkins, my recipe stand and a few other kitchen essentials and decorations. Decorating doesn’t always mean adding new pieces, it can also mean adjusting what you already have to the season. While it’s a nice sized space, that doesn’t mean I want to clutter it by adding more items.
Cookie jar? How about an ornament jar instead this month? Anything glass sets off my ‘I could add ornaments to this’ alert in my brain. They’re one of my favorite things to decorate with during the holidays. Ornaments come in all shapes, sizes, colors, styles, sparkles and fit in virtually anything, including a simple glass cookie jar.
This multi pack of green and red glittery ornaments is the closest to the ones I got years ago I could find. Something like this will surely add sparkle to any space!
Decorating with Simple Holiday Decor
Similarly, if you want to add a little to you decor, you could add a more festive cookie jar in addition to your ornament display jar. On our last Target trip, Kev saw this buffalo plaid cookie jar and loved how well it fit our family.
So, it came home with us and we swapped them out. I’m keeping our snacks in the opaque one and I decorated with the existing one.
Repurposing 3-Wick Candle Jar Lids
For the small bit of wall space between my cabinets and counters I wanted to add a little sparkle. I remembered reading somewhere how people use their decorative 3-wick candle jar lids as wall decorations.
I now understand what they mean, they’re the perfect size! You can place them anywhere you want and you don’t even need a nail to hang them. They’re so lightweight you can easily affix these to the wall with some 3M command strips.

Repurposing Everyday Items as Holiday Decor
My next conundrum is that I always have to keep my straws out. They’re a staple in my house between my year-round iced coffee obsession and having them for guests’ drinks. Putting them away is an inconvenience I’m just not willing to create in this case.
The simple solution to this is changing the straw colors with the seasons. I’m a big fan of the 100-packs of the big Ikea straws, they’re usually about $4. The packs last forever, I don’t think I’ve bought a new pack in maybe two years. Display your in-season straw colors in a cute little mason jar and store the extras in a cabinet or pantry until next season.

Put all of the above together, and what have you got? A cozy, festive little corner nook.
