I was always thought going green was expensive, as going organic/healthier options have been known to be. The more I looked at what I was already doing, the more I realized it doesn’t cost much more (if any more at all) to start adding a little more green to my daily routine. Here’s my take on how to go green without breaking the bank.

How to Go Green for Lunch

Below are a few concepts I’m currently utilizing for on-the-go lunches. They’re great ideas for both adults and kids alike!

Lunchskins Reusable Food Bags

These reusable sandwich and snack bags are dishwasher safe and come in tons of colors and patterns. They velcro shut at the top to make a firm, fresh seal.

The larger yellow Lunchskin above is an older sandwich size one I have and the smaller green Lunchskin below is the snack size version.

The only con is that they don’t make a 100% airtight seal, so you can’t necessarily prep super long in advance. However, it’s a balance. If going green is important to you, adjusting your meal prep isn’t a big sacrifice.

Reusable Food Containers

I used my Wonderbread sandwich container for YEARS before working remotely. It was cute, stuck out so I could always find it in the work fridge, and no one confused it for their own.

They make them in a few different top-rack dishwasher safe colors and prints. Shop cute hard shell sandwich containers on Amazon here.

Go Green When Shopping In-Store

Reusable bags have become much more commonplace, but did you know they also make reusable insulated bags? Below is one of the first ones I got for free from a Lean Cuisine promotion.

These are wonderful for large Costco trips, grocery trips that are further from home, or even road tripping for cold food and snacks. Shop much more appealing looking reusable insulated bags on Amazon here.

Let’s not forget the traditional non-insulated reusable shopping bags. I have a small collection of Trader Joe’s ones that I’ve simply gathered over time. However, they also make really simple, colorful ones these days. Shop reusable grocery shopping bags on Amazon here.

Buy a Brita Water Pitcher

Plastic water bottles are basically the scurge of the Earth. We all know this. I’m still guilty of needing one once in a while. However, when I’m home, I’m using my fridge’s filtration or a Brita water pitcher.

Brita Water Filter

Another great option that Kev and I had for years is a Brita water filter tank, because it lasts a long time and has a convenient dispenser. Fill her up and leave in the fridge so you have cold glass of freshly filtered water whenever you want!
